Tracking Reports Have Filtering

Another upgrade to the reporting features of ASE Adnet has arrived. The tracking report will now filter out bots and crawlers from the view and click data for the majority of known bots. We can't catch everything, but the view data should be more in-line with human only traffic. This will make the new revenue report more accurate as well.

Stats Updated Every 30 Minutes

As a temporary fix to the bug that caused the tracking problem a few days ago, the stats will now be updated every 30 minutes. A new way of grabbing data from the backend servers is being worked out now to permanently fix the issue, regardless of traffic. The reason that the stats broke was that there was a surge of traffic which caused the script to grab the stats to die due to excessive data being copied to the frontend server. Since the script never finished, it kept trying and trying till it was manually fixed. Having the stats update more often will fix the symptom. The actual cure will be installed in a few days.

Click Graphs, Tracking Off Today

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on July 4, 2009 at 8:59:27 AM
There was a slight error transferring stats from the backend servers to the front end database that occurred sometime last night. This caused clicks to be multiplied. The tracking reports should show fairly accurate data, but the graphs will be off until the data can be cleansed (if it can). This will have no bearing on revenue reports and no clicks have been lost. The error has been corrected.

Edit: The data should be correct for the clicks, maybe not for views. Expect little traffic over the holiday weekend as well and have a good 4th of July!

The tracking stats for today and yesterday are wrong for views and clicks. This does not have any effect on the revenue. Thank you to those that mentioned there were problems with the tracking reports not showing up. Apart from this problem, the stats will be correct from tomorrow on.

Targeting Update This Weekend

There will be another round of targeting updates to increase revenue for publishers. If you notice any issues with your ads, please let us know by hitting the email address in the adcode section at the top.

Another issue that some people are noticing is that certain products don't show up in the ads even though they show up in the shopping pages. If this happens it is due to a category issue. The fastest way to fix this is to contact us and we'll send a ticket to fix the product alignment. We continually check for new products being put into wrong categories, but it is helpful to let us know your findings as well.

Edit: Monday will bring another round of targeting updates.

Adnet will be undergoing a new targeting algorithm to (hopefully) improve revenue generation for all publishers. We will be shunning away from the CPA offers and moving back to the higher value CPC ones.

Bad Keyed Clicks Rejected

There will be an update tomorrow to fix an annoying thing that some "savvy" users are doing. What happens is they remove the tracking information from the links that ASE Adnet provides and you lose money. There is a checksum attached to the link to stop this from happening and log the error... it seems there are a few offenders that are modifying the links to make you lose money.

Have no fear, there will be an update soon to stop this and just redirect back to the original page so the invalid clicks will not be done. It isn't widespread, but it will plug a very annoying hole.

Tracking Update Complete

The tracking system has been updated to provide source details. The click counts are correct for today and on, but the view counts will be wacky until tomorrow. If you leave the source on All Sources, the data will be the same as you are used to it. Tomorrow will be the first full day of proper source tracking. Remember that ASE Adnet's tracking system uses UTC.

Source Tracking Tomorrow

ASE Adnet believes in transparency. For this reason, a new addition will be made to the tracking system to allow you to drill down what revenue sources your traffic is seeing and clicking on. This additional will increase the data available to you to make better choices in the way your placements perform.

The update tomorrow has been tested on the development server, but there may be errors in tracking tomorrow. Anything should be temporary.

Geotargeting Today

The switch on for geotargeting starts today. A tracking pixel will be shown along with your geotargeting adcode if the user is not from an english speaking area. The tracking pixel allows you to still use ASE Adnet's tracking system as a pageview counter. If you notice any problems, please let me know.
